When customers hear about “customized swimming pools,” many assume they can choose any size or shape without limitation. While customization does allow for a wide range of designs, the truth is that pools cannot be made to absolutely any size—especially when it comes to prefabricated acrylic or fiberglass models intended for export. One of the biggest restrictions comes from logistics, particularly the dimensions of standard shipping containers.
For international deliveries, most pools need to fit into either a 20-foot or 40-foot container. The inner width of a container is about 2.35 meters, and the inner height is around 2.65 meters. This means that even if a manufacturer has the technology to produce a pool wider than 2.4 meters, transporting it overseas in one piece becomes extremely difficult. Oversized transport is possible, but it requires special flat-rack containers, higher freight charges, and more complex handling at ports, which greatly increases costs.
Another factor is structural stability. Extremely large one-piece pools may experience stress or warping during lifting, loading, and long-distance transportation. Manufacturers must design reinforcements to ensure that the pool does not deform before installation. In addition, installation site conditions must be considered. A pool that fits in a container might still face challenges such as narrow roads, cranes for unloading, or limited backyard space.
From the user’s perspective, it is often better to balance desired size with practical transport and installation requirements. Many suppliers provide popular models that maximize usable swimming area while staying within container-friendly dimensions. For customers who want an extra-large pool, modular designs or on-site assembly can be explored as alternatives.
In short, customized pools are highly flexible, but “any size” is not realistic. Manufacturers and buyers need to consider container dimensions, transportation costs, structural safety, and installation conditions. Understanding these factors ensures that the dream of a personalized pool does not become an expensive logistical headache.
